FOX and NBC Fall Pilots’ Viral Potential Caleb Hamilton, May 23, 2011 Last week was big for the major TV networks as they unveiled their fall lineups. Today, we’re going to take a look at several new shows airing this fall and decide if they have the potential to spawn viral campaigns. Some may be no brainers, others may surprise you. Read on and see if you agree!First up, FOX has several great shows premiering this Fall, two of which could produce viral campaigns.J.J. Abrams’ new show, Alcatraz is a crime drama about a team investigating the famous prison and the reappearance of inmates from the 1960s. It stars LOST alum Jorge Garcia and Heroes alumni Santiago Cabrera and Robert Forster. Like Abrams’ other FOX drama, Fringe (not mention ABC’s LOST), Alcatraz definitely has the potential for a viral campaign. If not leading up to the premiere, then a campaign can definitely appear during the series run.http://youtu.be/J_jAlFqvASUAnother new FOX drama premiering in the fall comes from legendary filmmaker, Steven Spielberg. Terra Nova is having some trouble, but looks like it will be a solid series. It was supposed to preview this month, but because it relies on many special effects, that had to be cancelled. Some people are worried that because it needs so many effects, the quality of the show is going to suffer down the road. For now, the quality is really good (as you will be able to see in the trailer).Terra Nova tells the story of the human race in 2149 A.D. going back in time to rebuild civilization because the Earth is dying. But of course, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Terra Nova stars Jason O’Mara (Resident Evil: Extinction), Steven Lang (AVATAR) and Christine Adams (TRON: Legacy)http://youtu.be/X6aNEIZwPFcThis show is like a mashup of Jurassic Park, StarGate and AVATAR. Steven Lang even reprises his role from AVATAR! This series has the potential for a viral campaign, but may not produce one just because of the all the money it needs to spend on production.Out of all the shows NBC is premiering this year, only one really stands out as viral potential. It’s called Grimm, and it’s a modern day spin on the Brothers Grimm fairytales we were told as kids. Only they weren’t stories…they were warnings. David Giuntoli plays a homicide detective who has his life changed when his aunt tells him he is a descendent of the Grimms, who protect humanity from the supernatural.http://youtu.be/Kh3rFsv_WSEDo you think these shows are viral worthy?
