The countdown on the Pan Pacific Defense Corps has made its final tick and it has revealed what many had theorized since the site was launched. A fantastic trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim has finally been released, and it features heavy-duty robots, giant monsters, and massive destruction. We’ve been following the viral for the film for quite some time and we are very excited to show you the first trailer for the film. Hit the jump to see it.
For those who haven’t attended Comic-Con much of the Pacific Rim footage you are seeing now is pretty much new to you. But if you had the chance to attend it, then this is more of a refresher.
In the trailer we get to hear some of the backstory that explains the existence of the monsters called the Kaiju and massive human-piloted mechas called Jaegers. The some of the mechanic of the jaegers and how the piloting system works are also revealed in the trailer. Not only that, but we get to see the Cherno Alpha, Gypsy Danger, and the Crimson Typhoon- the robots that appeared on those blueprints we posted earlier – in action.
Starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day, Pacific Rim will open in theaters in 2D and 3D on July 12, 2013.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
