What Are the Students Waiting For? The Most Anticipated Shows of 2019
A new season comes with new content. With so many original TV series to choose from, there are still some fantastic shows we are waiting for the most. To separate the good from the bad, here are our picks. Let us count down the most anticipated television series, according to the students’ choice. All of these shows are scheduled for release in the second half of 2019. So, there are two ways to save your time – read this article or buy essay online and then read this article. Let’s start with the first option.
Mindhunter Season 2 (Netflix)
Release date: August 16, 2019
Starring: Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany
The show basically breaks down to the following: you have the team of three people working for the FBI. They are not fighting bad guys on the rooftops of New York. They are the team that starts the work of putting together psychological profiles to try to understand the criminal mind and prevent crimes from happening. What seems to be the main storyline, the vein if you will, is these three people travelling to different prisons around the country, sitting down, and talking with the most deranged of killers.
They try to understand the mindset of a serial killer. What made them the way they are? What motivated them? How did they feel as they were doing it? While you are watching, you realize that this is not an action series. It is a slow, thoughtful, pondering show that makes you be brought into all the discussions. It is made to stimulate your mind as you are watching it. The pieces of the puzzle of the show are so brilliantly laid out that you easily follow them as an audience member moving from the first theories to the interviews and real cases.
Season 2 of Mindhunter was commissioned even before Season 1 had been released, so it is clear that Netflix is very confident in the property and where it is going. It is set to be centred around two big crimes with the first being the Atlanta child murders (1979-1981). That brutal attack claimed the lives of at least 21 people.
Where does this show go? We will see in August.
Taboo Season 2 (BBC/ FX)
Release date: late 2019
Starring: Tom Hardy
Yes, you do not need to know any names besides Tom Hardy, it is totally his show as well as Legend, Bronson, and Locke. FX’s eight-part Taboo is very dark, very dense, and truly novel. You will have to pay very close attention to see where things are headed in this visceral, brutish, and bloody tale, which is like life as it was in the early 19th century in London.
What is the plot? Tom Hardy returned for his now-dead father, who had been struggling shipping business and a piece of land off the coast, what is now Vancouver. That area holds strategic and emotional importance for him and the Barons’ of profit. There are family secrets to be spilled along with blood and mysteries within mysteries to be unravelled.
Taboo will be a three-season series: the first season was the “escape”, the second one will be “the journey”, and the third one will be “the arrival”. And as the director said about the season 2 of Taboo: “We are heading west literally. Season 2 will involve a period of history that is pretty much never been dramatically explored – a conflict in 1814”.
Rick & Morty Season 4 (Adult Swim)
Release date: November 2019
An animated show from the creative minds of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon is truly a masterpiece. By telling the story of the adventures of a young kid and his super-intelligent alcoholic grandfather as they travel through dimensions, the writers have managed to make something truly unique. There are fun and exciting stories that feel less like The Simpsons and Family Guy and more like a dark comedy version of Doctor Who.
There is a lot of diversity and imagination in each episode, and all of them in their core never forget the sci-fi roots and foundations on which the show is built on. Admittedly, it does have some pretty gross humor, but it is not as common as you would think, and generally it is pretty hilarious.
Season 3 left us with questions: What happened to Evil Morty? Is there actually a Clone Beth? Season 4 could be used to tie up those loose threads.
Peaky Blinders Season 5 (BBC)
Release date: late 2019-2020
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson
The 1920s. Birmingham, England. The stylish gang fights for its right to run the city. It takes place after World War One, so most of the men have been fighting in France, and some of them suffer from post-traumatic stress. The directors did a great job of making you feel just how much the war has changed people.
You might say that Peaky Blinders is just Sons of Anarchy in a different setting – a bunch of guys, standing around, trying to look cool. But this comparison is very far from being a bad thing. “Peaky Blinders” is like the later seasons of Sons of Anarchy, where everything moves a little bit slower, and every episode takes more out of you. You have to wait longer for something to pay off.
It might be just 24 episodes, but it feels like a lot more. The show does some pretty amazing things over the span of each short season. It takes its time to build up these characters and really flesh them out. Pair that with the incredible sets and wardrobe. This show is dripping with 1920s gangster style.
We warn you: this show will break your heart. Or has it already broken? (Watch Peaky Blinders to understand the beauty of that simple phrase.)
