“The Lion King” Roars in 3D

What can one say about Disney’s highest-grossing hand-drawn masterpiece that hasn’t been said countless times before? Everyone already knows how excellent The Lion King is: the Academy-Award winning score, unforgettable characters and inspiring tale of learning from past mistakes. Movie Review: “Drive” Is A Sleek and Thrilling Ride

High-octane car heist themed films haven’t lost their luster, they’ve always had excellent pulse pounding stylized car pursuits, but at the same time they have been quite predictable. Fortunately, Nicolas Winding Refn’s reformulates all of that with Drive, a fiercely intense drama that will put any audience member on the edge of their seat. Don’t let the pink title art fool you, Ryan Gosling can do more than shift a couple of gears and take a couple of punches. With a limited use of words and complex poise, Gosling delivers a commanding performance and when backed by a wonderful supporting cast and excellent storytelling, Drive will not be the last time you will be hearing of Refn’s name. Movie Review: “Fright Night” Pays Homage to The Original In Fun and Contemporary Way

Fright Night is one of those classic 1980s horror films that was able to combine the blood and gore of the horror genre with comedic styles. Back then 3D was not a relevant gimmick, nor was it a box office booster. Now turn the clock forward 30 years later and take a look at Craig Gillespie’s fun contemporary vision at the cult classic. Thanks to Gillespie the vampire name has been reestablished. They are no longer shamed by the pale, sad and emotional, sparkling vampires we see in teenage novels. They have returned to the charming but terrifying blood thirsty creepers of the night. [Read more...]

Movie Review: “The Help” Is Delicious Alternative To The Tiresome Summer Flare

In a day an age of explosive 3D films, its nice to know that The Help can be a change of pace. Sure we have had Woody Allen’s A Midnight in Paris and Terrance Malick’s The Tree of Life released along side some of the cookie cut summer films, but The Help can be and should be considered one of the great alternatives that is not afraid to share the lime light with some of the big budget blockbuster films. Movie Review: “Attack the Block” Is A Fresh and Funny Instant Cult Classic

From the moment I saw the trailer for Attack the Block, Joe Cornish’s directorial debut, I knew that this film would be an instant hit with fans of his work and cult movie enthusiasts. Though he is not a household name when it comes to directors or producers, I suspect that will all change the moment the movie ends. This movie is almost able to blend movie genres from across the board seamlessly without effort, but in doing so some of its characters suffer. Still Attack the Block is a very fun film to watch on the big screen and there is no doubt you should go out and watch it. Hit the jump to read the full review. Believe. [Read more...]
