Second Opinion: “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ Review

Editor’s Note: Given this movie’s significance, we have posted two reviews. See Michael’s review here.

David Yates, the director of the past few Harry Potter movies, is a wise man. He saved the big fight for the end. Lately he has stuck to more dramatic endings and less action-packed climaxes, favoring character-driven conclusions. This key strategy works excellent as a build up to this movie, and it has finally arrived. However, this time the movie lacks in a crucial but forgivable factor. See my spoilerish review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 after the jump.

Movie Review: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″

I can be redundant and tell you how many years Harry Potter has impacted the world (14 years), or how much money it has made through books, movies and other merchandise (Billions, with a capital B), or how many books there have been (seven), or how many movies there have been (eight), but I would just be repeating what most people have said in their openings (which I just did). Regardless, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a fitting end to a lengthy series and after the dramatic set up in the first half Part 2 ends with one emotional bang. [Read more...]

Movie Review: “Winnie The Pooh” Is Sweet as Honey

This Friday, The Walt Disney Company releases Winnie the Pooh in theaters. It will be the first Pooh movie in theaters since 2005. The classic children’s series debuted in 1926 as a novel by A. A. Milne, then grew into a franchise that included television shows, movies, and of course merchandising. How does this classic world hold up in modern cinema? Find out after the jump.

Movie Review: “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” An Obnoxiously Loud Incoherent Scrap Heap

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is definitely an improvement from its predecessor Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. However, I say that with if there was something smaller than a grain of salt. That improvement although miniscule is an improvement, and the only reason why it is such an improvement is because of its 3D effects. Otherwise this movie is a very poor product and a shiny reflection of what director Michael Bay is capable of, which are big explosions, lame forced jokes, and no story. But what else can you expect from Bay? Hit the jump to read my full review. [Read more...]

“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Review

In 2009, Michael Bay dropped a bomb on us, literally. For sure, Revenge of the Fallen would be the end of the Transformers series, but alas, Paramount Pictures announced a release date for their third entry in the blockbusting series. Right away, Transformers: Dark of the Moon was scrutinized and bashed, even before cameras started rolling. Two years later, the world is ready to see if Michael Bay can redeem himself, and the Transformers franchise. Long story short: he did.

Review: “Cars 2″ Gets Mangled but Still Manages to Cross the Finish Line

Pixar puts a lot of effort into making a compelling story that engages the audience both on a comedic level and an emotional level, but when the studio decided to create a sequel to Cars 2, one of their lowest praised films, a lot of people started to scratch their heads. With good reason of course. The first film had a lot of heart, the whole idea of a dying town that was the life of what road trips were or how the generation has forgotten about route 66 was a novel idea. Throw in a little color and a dash of character growth and you got yourself a little nugget of a good movie. But perhaps the most damaging thing to come out of Cars was that it looked like a large Chevron with Techron commercial. The concept of talking cars isn’t anything new at all, but the problem with Cars was its concept only got half of the intended target audience and failed to grasp the older ones. With Cars 2, expect the older audience to fall asleep while the younger ones are at play. Hit the jump to read the full review. [Read more...]

Movie Review: “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” Lives Up To Its Subtitle

Editor’s Note: This article was originally published on Sunday, May 15th

With his charm and dashing good looks Johnny Depp has created a character that should go down in history for the pirate genre, and after two films that focused heavily on Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann we can finally come back to the character we all know and love. But Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides can get a bit convoluted and gets confused on whether or not to focus on the character that brought the Pirates franchise to where it is today. Hit the jump to read the full review. [Read more...]

“For Asgard!” A Review of Marvel’s “THOR”

Marvel Studios’ Thor is one epic journey that should not be taken by the faint of heart. Many people thought it couldn’t be done. They asked, “How are you gonna do Thor?” The comics are full of magic, myth and action; a challenge to put onto the screen. When it was announced that Kenneth Branagh would be directing, I was in doubt. Branagh, being a classically trained, Shakespearian actor wouldn’t know his way around a comic book movie! But you can’t knock it until you experience it and Thor…is one hell of an experience.
