Amidst of all the spoilery Prometheus TV spots and trailers, there lies a viral campaign that is being used lightly but quite effectively. It all started off with the incredible Peter Weyland speech at TEDTALK 2023, but the last time we saw some real meaty viral activity was when Weyland posted a video for the new David 8 Android. Now the campaign has taken a turn to the humans, this newest entry in the Prometheus viral campaign centers on Noomi Rapace’s character pleading to the head of Weyland Industries, Peter Weyland, to commission an expedition to answer life’s biggest question. The video is pretty much self-explanatory, but the best thing about it is that it is not spoilery, unlike its TV spot brothers that flood the NBA playoffs during timeouts. But check out the video for yourself, and don’t worry, there is no need to warn you about any spoilers, because from the looks of it, there aren’t any.

Prometheus opens in theaters on June 8th.

Well I guess I could have teased the ending a bit more, but considering how anticlimatic it is anyway, I figured it didn’t matter. The Men in Black III viral campaign seems to have come to an end, and Bugeyes gets what he’s always dreamed of. Get the details after the jump.

Bugeyes posted a new video today where he receives a silver suitcase from the Men in Black that has the last suit he’ll ever wear.

With the help of other MIBelievers, Bugeyes also figured out the pink surprise cakes are being used to smuggle information without the MIB knowing. His investigative prowess is what earned him his spot with the Men in Black. Maybe his new name will be “B”.

We at MovieViral know our viral videos pretty well, so we decided to share our knowledge to those looking to expand their Internet horizons. YouTube Tuesday is a weekly feature where we shine the spotlight on our favorite YouTube channels related to movies and television. We focus on channels that provide new videos on a regular basis, especially ones that we feel need more exposure. This week we are featuring the self-explanatory Epic Rap Battles of History.

Peter Alexis Shukoff, aka Nice Peter, is a very popular YouTube personality who does humorous musical bits like Picture Songs. His channel debuted the series Epic Rap Battles of History, co-created with Epic Lloyd in September of 2010, and they were an instant hit. The concept is pretty simple: Using user submissions, two historical individuals, current celebrities, or even fictional characters rap battle each other. While other YouTubers often guest star, usually Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd play the main roles. The first episode was John Lennon vs. Bill O’Reilly, but the most popular one by far has been Darth Vader vs. Adolf Hitler, which has over 56 million views.

The Epic Rap Battles of History have helped Nice Peter gain over 1.5 million subscribers and almost half a billion video views. For the second season (which debuted with a Vader/Hitler rematch), the battles moved to their own channel, but the views are still coming for this monthly series. If you missed out on all the fun of the scavenger hunt, then you are in luck. The Amazing Spider-Man viral campaign swings into full gear online as you become an Oscorp intern and work in their virtual lab. Get the details after the break.

The before-mentioned scavenger hunt brought us to the Animal Dynamics Lab portion of Oscorp Industries’ website. Of course, Oscorp and the Osborn family are notorious part of the Spider-Man mythology, and the head of the ADL is Dr. Curt Conners (played by Rhys Ifans), who find out turns into The Lizard. The ADL site is now open, so it’s time to get to work. Here’s how the page explains what you’ll be doing as an Oscorp Intern:

WELCOME TO THE VIRTUAL LAB
Your Oscorp workstation is now online.

Here, you will master the fundamentals of genetics, chemical reactions, and bioengineering under the strict tutelage of Dr. Curtis Connors. His name is almost as legendary as his work… and his work is revolutionary. Your efforts in the animal dynamics lab are crucial to the success of Dr. Connors’ latest initiative.

Proceed.

There are three sections that you will work on, Chemical Bonding, Molecular Nesting, and Genome Repair. The first section, Chemical Bonding, is an 8 level puzzle that is actually pretty tricky. The goal is to make a connection between two carbon atoms with other hexagonal elements that share a color on the side you connect. When you complete the first four levels, you get access to a congratulatory video from Dr. Connors himself. I haven’t been able to get pass the 6th level (though I’ve been really close), but our friends at Unfiction are always on top of these things and have found the other five hidden links.

The /araneae page is just Dr. Connors with a vague sciency warning, but //covalence and /foundations have images of DNA code and a close-up of a spider. The last two links relate directly with Peter Parker’s now-deceased father, Dr. Richard Parker. The subpage /externalvalidity has a newspaper clipping featuring an image of Richard and Dr. Connor, and /dependentvariable has a letter from Peter’s mother Mary to Richard congratulating him on some kind of promotion within Oscorp. This ARG gets right into the thick of things, since a big part of the film’s storyline revolved around Peter finding out the truth about his father’s work and his parents’ deaths. We should know more as the other two sections of the ADL are opened, so stay tuned.

When we last gave an update on the Men in Black III viral campaign, our friend Bugeyes had learned of a tattoo parlor that was giving away a mysterious cake. Since then, the conspiracy theorist has been pretty busy. Get the details after the break.

Bugeyes is the name of the kid who runs TheMeninBlackSuitsAreReal.com, and looks for both proof of aliens on earth and the MIB themselves. After discovering Clive’s Tattoo Parlor, he went through their dumpster, as you can see in the video below.

After finding a copy of the Weekly World News in the dumpster, Bugeyes called them up and ended up writing an article for them, which is featured on their cover. The tabloid then did an article that featured Wu’s Chinese Restaurant. Bugeyes also claims Arianna Huffington is an alien on her own news website, to which Ms. Huffington replied via video.

While cross promotion in web campaigns is not unusual, Sony takes it to another level with Men in Black III. While others, like Marvel, have done this lately, it is usually very contained and never tries to pass itself off as a viral campaign or ARG. However, the brand integration in “The Men in Black Suits Are Real Experience” is so blatant that it’s hard to want to follow along. Baskin Robbins plays a key part of this “pink cake” storyline, and the Huffington Post even has sponsored posts that aren’t directly related to the campaign (though Bugeyes makes sure to link to them). Don’t even get me started on that Sony VAIO sitting on the desk in the video above. At least the Weekly World News has a history with the franchise, as K (Tommy Lee Jones) claims in the first film that the MIB use the tabloid for leads.

Aside from a ridiculous amount of Assemble puns, Marvel has a new YouTube channel that allows you to piece together a music video. Like the fan-made commercial for LOST and DVD trailer for Law Abiding Citizen, it supplies you with the materials you need to get your creative juices flowing. Find out more after the jump.

As the Avengers Remix page explains:

You’ll need a Google account and Adobe Flash to get started. There is a quick intro to the editing program which isn’t helpful to unexperienced editors, who will most likely not know what they’re doing, but it feels extremely natural to those who have used even Windows Movie Maker. I’d say it closely resembles the old iMovie since it has only one layer of video, but two layers of audio. Don’t think you’re getting any heavy orchestral music to play around with though, this is a straightforward music video with contemporary music. Don’t think you get anything uploaded to your channel either. They take ownership of your work but you still get credited in the title. Trailers Weekly is a feature in which we bring you the most popular and talked about trailers of the week. Sharing trailers is a classic viral practice, and trailers are still the most mainstream way for people to learn about movies. Today we have trailers for The Dictator, Argo, Killer Joe, Gangster Joe, and The Campaign. Hit the jump to see them all.

Argo
The first trailer for Ben Affleck’s newest directorial effort Argo has appeared online, and if you are fascinated with history then this is just the movie you want to watch. out how the CIA used a fake sci-fi film to rescue Americans during the Tehran hostage crisis. For all the intensity you would think this film would have, there are a few moments where you do laugh in the trailer.

The Dictator
Here is the latest red-band trailer for The Dictator, unfortunately a lot of the jokes just feel repetitive and lack the kind of punch we saw in movies like Borat and Bruno and the latest reviews seem to suggest that as well. We’ll just have to see if the general audience says otherwise.

Killer Joe
When you get a movie that has murder and southern fried chicken, you get a more than a tasty movie. Directed by William Friedkin, Killer Joe stars Emile Hirsch as a young man who hires in shady hitman (Matthew McConaughey) to take out his mother in order to collect an insurance policy.

Gangster Squad
There hasn’t been a since more exciting looking period piece crime drama L.A. Confidential. Public Enemies tried to replicate this same feeling, but failed to do so. Now comes Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad, and it looks amazing. What’s even better is that he was able to gather Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Bryan Cranston, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi and more to star in this incredible looking movie.

The Campaign
We also have the first trailer for The Campaign. We’ve recently saw two political attack ads from the movie that lead up to the trailer’s release, but they were mere teases. Nothing says comedy like Will Ferrll punching a baby or Zach Galifianakis shooting an arrow at Ferrell. Honestly this could be a hit comedy in a season surrounded by action blockbusters.

Earlier today the viral campaign for The Amazing Spider-Man saw a boost from a dead drop that revealed an internship through the Oscorp website. There is an innocuous video of Dr. Curt Connors welcoming the interns, but there is also a code underneath that collapses into the word “Mutagen”. This ends up being a new Oscorp subpage that has a more revealing video. Check it out after the break.

While the video itself is not in-world, I’m sure fans are excited to see these video blogs that reveal more of the film. What do you think of Connor’s transformation into the Lizard?

Follow the campaign at our The Amazing Spider-Man Hub, and catch the film in theaters on July 3rd.

By following the appropriately named @ScaleSeeker on Twitter, a student at Midtown Science High School, those wishing to participate and those who just wanted to follow along, received the coordinates for a location where they would find evidence of the Lizard’s existence. Once the hunt began, those who found evidence were to tweet with the hashtag #LizardTrail. Uncovered evidence included Dr. Curt Connors’ ripped lab coat with ID, a slide with what appears to be shed scales. The scales reveal an OSCORP project called “Herpeton” and each slide is labeled with a sequence number. Thanks to @GuestUser17 for the photos of the evidence he collected!

It was discovered that the sequence numbers are a Caeser cipher and when decoded lead to a new section of the OSCORP website.

Dr. Connors is looking to recruit some interns in the Animal Dynamics Lab.
