With it being Spring Break where I am, the next big time for movies this year is Summer. We’ll have our 2010 Summer Movie Preview in a few weeks, but it got me thinking about last year’s great summer. Our first Summer Movie Preview podcast aired April 10th, 2009. Listen as Dan, Nick, Scott, and Ian talk about all the anticipated (and dreaded) movies that would be coming out from June to August 2009. It’s a great trip down memory lane.

This Week In Viral: Yeah, We’re Still Here

Sorry for the long break. Let’s get down to business. So, two more virals have come to pass this year, with Star Trek and Angels & Demons now behind us. Listen to our review of the viral campaigns in our latest ViralCast. With the death of two virals, a new viral is born. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has finally started a viral campaign with a couple of sites that so far don’t mean much to me. Check out the links here, or check out our Transformers page. Terminator Salvation – resistorbeterminated.com’s new design is cool, but it prevents us from seeing the dates their posts are uploaded. Great. The site now has a community war simulator that puts you against Skynet. It’s kind of confusing to me personally, but you may like it, so check it out. They’ve also been busy hacking Skynet’s infomercials and getting more messages from the future. Here’s the latest:

District 9 – The month of May saw some nice updates to the District 9 viral campaign. The first trailer premiered in front of Wolverine and online on May 1st. There’s even a new Twitter account, though forum member Dizzi800 noticed quite a big mistake. The poster premiered a few days later. Surrogates – Disney now has an extended preview for Surrogates, giving us our first real glimpse at the film.

2012 – The IHC is finally updating their news feed once in a while. Here’s the latest update:

White House Chief of Staff Carl Anheuser (pictured) announced today that President Wilson will not be attending the G-8 Environmental Summit as previously reported. Mr. Anheuser stated that the President is needed stateside and that he will attend the Summit in lieu of the President. The controversial Summit plans to address impending planetary threats and possible recourse in the face of disaster.

And of course, Mr. Frost has (surprisingly only one!) new video:

Last, I’m not sure if I mentioned this last time, but Soren Ulfert, Communications Director at the Institute for Human Continuity, has a Twitter account.

Angels & Demons Review

There has been much controversy over the new Ron Howard film, Angels & Demons, which released April 15th. This cinematic sequel to The Da Vinci Code calls on Robert Langdon – a Harvard Symbolist – once again, but this time to help the Catholic Church. Ron Howard takes the crowd on an exciting experience throughout Rome and the Vatican City. And it ends, one would say, with a bang. Read more after the jump.

This review is going by the movie, not actual facts. Angels & Demons begins with a complex problem Robert Langdon must help solve, the return of the Illuminati. It had been thought for hundreds of years the Illuminati, along with the Path of Illumination, was gone. The Illuminati was a group of scientists and artists who fled from the Catholic Church because of the condemning modern science and art. It included the likes of Galileo, Bernini, and Raphael.

The Pope had recently died, so all Cardinals were gathered at St. Peter’s Basilica to elect a new Pope. But the four favorites to win the papacy had been kidnapped. The Illuminati stated they would kill one of the Cardinals at each hour, starting at 8:00PM.

At the same time, the Illuminati threatened to destroy all of the Vatican with anti-matter they stole from CERN (particle collider). A security camera image of the canister containing the anti-matter was what alarmed the Swiss Guard. The camera was wireless and had to be somewhere in the Vatican. Robert Landon, with the help of the Vatican archives, reveals the Path of Illumination is still alive and that the killings of the Cardinals would be at each of the four locations on the path, for the four basic elements of science, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. Robert Landon follows each clue to the next location and obviously experiences obstacles along the way. At the end of the path lies the Church of Illumination, the place where the Illuminati met in secrecy.

The plot is filled with twists and turns of which are guaranteed to entertain audiences of all likes. The ending is fantastic and un-predictable. Unfortunately, if you read the book, you may be disappointed at the multiple changes made (as with any book-to-movie), but the main plot is still intact. The good thing is, even if you read the book, you’ll still be guessing to the end!

I give this movie a 8/10, I was a bit disappointed to the many book-to-movie changes, as I was a huge fan of the book. But the movie was still fantastic and a must see for anyone interested in history, science, art, and mystery! Ron Howard is at his best with Angels & Demons – and this movie trumps The Da Vinci Code by a mile.

This Week In Viral – Our First Viral Ends

The Watchmen viral appears to be officially over, as noted by the elimination of its page from our site. This is the first viral we’ve covered at MoveViral to end, so this is an important moment for us. Check out the forum if you want to talk about your reaction to the film, and we have a few reviews on the main page, including our ViralCast Special. We’ll have a review of the viral itself soon. I guess I can’t continue to use titles claiming not much is going on in viral, because that’s going to get old really quick. A few viral updates after the jump…

2012 – Charlie Frost has a video explaining why he doesn’t think much of Nostradamus :

Angels & Demons – Now this is interesting. One of new members, “lion”, was the first to give us the codes for the viral site. He explained that he found them on the official site, but I tried to find them and came up with nothing. Now he has posted a cryptic message:

I must hurry I don’t have much time to write this, i’m being watched.
You MUST help me save Robert, he is in grave danger.
Look for the light where it should not be.

Could be nothing, but staff writer Ian noted that there are flashes before some of the videos on the viral site. What could this all mean? Is he part of the official viral, or is he just pulling our leg? Those have been his only posts, so who knows if or when we’ll find out.

This Week In Viral – Cloverfield 2?

That’s right, JJ Abrams spoke at WonderCon about the possibility of Cloverfield 2. Here is the video:

Not much more than what he and Director Matt Reeves have said in the past, though it seems like they finally have a good idea for the sequel/spin off.

Angels & Demons – Kudos go out to member “lion” from the forums who found out the codes for the viral site. The codes are 1918, 5118208, 69185, and 23120518. Each shows a night vision video of a different priest in some kind of jail cell, and apparently represent wind, air, fire, and water. “lion” got the codes from the official site, though my attempts at finding them have turned up nothing.

Surrogates – Register on the viral site for new surrogate models coming out this year. It should be interesting to see what they do with this.

District 9 – Thanks to David for these updates. The film has starting advertising on the web, as seen on Slashfilm.com. Also, one of the viral sites, district9.com, is now under construction. Be sure to follow developments in the forum.

2012 – Charlie Frost is at it again. Now he has a video about the Mayan religious figure Kukulcan. Here’s the video:

This Week In Viral – Nothing Big…Yet

It’s been a relatively quiet week in viral campaigns, with just a few small updates to 2012, Angels & Demons, Terminator, and Watchmen.

2012 – The viral site ThisIsTheEnd.com has yet another Charlie Frost video, this time talking about an underground seed bank. Here’s the video:

Angels & Demons – I’m actually not sure when this was added, but I just noticed today that the viral site http://www.altarsofscience.com now has a place in the bottom left-hand corner in which to submit a code. Let us know if you figure out that code.

Watchmen – The New Frontiersman YouTube account has a special on the Watchmen from the Veidt Music Network. Here’s the video:

Terminator Salvation – While talks of Linda Hamilton possibly doing a voiceover circulate the web, Skynet Research is mailing out the Enhancement Module 101 it promises on the site. See the Slashfilm article that includes an unboxing video.
