Neville Page has become the go-to guy in Hollywood for designing pretty much anything that needs to be rendered in CGI. His specialty has been in creature design (i.e. Cloverfield, Star Trek, Avatar, Piranha 3D), but he is also a concept designer on Tron Legacy and has a star-studded resume. From his list of recent work, you can tell that J.J. Abrams is a fan, so it’s no surprise that Page is back to design…something for Super 8. When an international trailer comes out, you think nothing of it, other than the extra ten seconds of footage we are graced with. So what happens when an international trailer comes out before the standard trailer? Well, most people would think nothing of it, other than some subtitles, while others may look a little deeper. Go to YouTube. Search for “Cloverfield”. Watch all the crappy amateur videos that try desperately to imitate the 2008 hit film. With its handheld camera style and unique intensity, J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield brought a great new spin to the monster movie. Given its style, many have tried to replicate its creative success (read: Quarantine), but few have succeeded. Now, a few french students have made a short film that tries to do just that. Check it out after the break.
Despite a comment on our forums, I really didn’t see this coming. Some theaters had exclusive showings of Iron Man 2 for their employees and select people tonight at midnight, and the Super 8 teaser trailer was shown as well. After we confirmed that the secret film being produced by J.J. Abrams wasn’t affiliated with Cloverfield, the question remained as to its actual plot. Now we know. Yesterday we reported that a secret teaser trailer would premiere before Iron Man 2 this weekend. There are very few details on the J.J. Abrams-produced movie, currently titled Super 8, but we know that the trailer itself is being directed by Abrams. There was speculation, and even a timid confirmation, that the movie would be connected to Cloverfield. It turns out that is not the case, as you’ll find out when you hit the jump.

Earlier today, it was announced that J.J. Abrams was going to attach a trailer to Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 2. This morning we got word that a new trailer for a currently unknown movie will be shown with Iron Man 2 at its midnight showings across the United States. Iron Man 2 has already earned over $100 million at the box office across the seas, but no word about this new mysterious trailer from J.J Abrams has been mentioned until earlier this morning, so the trailer itself is seemingly only being released in the United States. Many people speculate and hope that it’s the much anticipated Cloverfield sequel, due to the same unique style of the original teaser trailer for Cloverfield released in front of Transformers back in 2007.

Although we’ve known about the Yogi Bear live action movie since 2008, this week we got our first images of what the CGI lead bears might look like. But what if the Warner Bros. film used real bears? Cloverfield’s T.J. Miller has a comical audition tape, originally posted last October, that supposes just that.

Back when our forum was a Cloverfield forum, one of the biggest discussions after the movie came out was what Clover really was and how it survived in the water. Designer Neville Page said he made the monster biologically accurate, but the guys at Cracked.com aren’t so convinced.
