Today we’ve got some cool fan made productions for two of our biggest films we’ve covered. First, a few months ago, MNPC Tech did a computer mod on a Cooler Master 840 ATCS, and they chose a District 9 theme. You can follow how they did it here, and see a few pictures of the computer, as well as a video of the build, after the break. Also after the break are some photos of a really cool concept hoodie (and a t-shirt, though that didn’t catch my eye much) that Nicholas Miller designed after Tron Legacy.

Yesterday was the start of San Diego Comic-Con 2010, and what a day it was. Last night was “Preview Night”, which had all the booths open for us to look at, experience, and take swag. As to be expected, we have yet another FIFA World Cup and District 9 mash-up video, this time courtesy of Disinformation. In the video, seen below, we find out that the MNU are moving the aliens in order to build the World Cup soccer stadium.

We don’t get to see a lot of good District 9 parody videos here at MovieViral, but the sports comedy group 12 Angry Mascots has done a great job with their video “District 11: World Cup Aftermath”, featured on Atom.com. The video spoofs the Academy Award nominated film and the World Cup by replacing the aliens with foreign soccer fans. Given that both take place in South Africa, it’s a perfect fit. We don’t see a lot of video spoofs on District 9 here at MovieViral, so it’s nice that we now have one starring Wikus himself, Sharlto Copley. In the Funny or Die video, which is after the jump, Wikus tries to get fellow South African Charlize Theron to present with him at the 2010 South African Music Awards. Complete with several incidents of “fook” and the documentary-style filmmaking used in the movie, it’s definitely worth a view.

With it being Spring Break where I am, the next big time for movies this year is Summer. We’ll have our 2010 Summer Movie Preview in a few weeks, but it got me thinking about last year’s great summer. Our first Summer Movie Preview podcast aired April 10th, 2009. Director Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 is a great example of  when Sci-Fi and Action are mixed together successfully. In District 9, the story goes that Wikus Van De Mere (Sharlto Copley) runs for his life from the M.N,.U (Multi-National United) and Nigerian gangs after an accident causes him to slowly transform into the alien species called the Prawn. His transformation is the only kind of transformation to ever happen before and because the weapons the Prawns have only work with Prawn DNA, both M.N.U and the Nigerian gang are after him. The weapons themselves are really freaking cool and when push comes to shove, Wikus and his new alien friend, Christopher, use them and completely destroy the humans that are trying to capture him. WETA, the prop making company that worked on the film, is selling full scale prop replicas of two alien weapons from District 9, on their website, available for pre-order at $500 each. Something a completely dedicated District 9 or Sci-Fi fan would really enjoy picking up. The two guns are the Gas Projector and the Arc Generator, two of the many guns in District 9.
