It’s not about District 10, either. In fact, the video is in no way related to District 9, or any of the filmmakers behind the movie. It is, however, tied to Sony Pictures, the studio behind the District 9 campaign. This silent and mysterious video is from no other than Battle: Los Angeles.

Yep, the page posted the latest viral video for Battle: Los Angeles. A pretty deceptive move that will convince many fans that a District 9 sequel is in the works. Basically, it’s all a clever ruse to get District 9 fans interested in the Battle: Los Angeles viral campaign. There has been little information on an actual sequel to District 9, but don’t expect any news until Neill Blomkamp finishes Elysium.

While “Past Sightings” gives you insight into historical reporting of UFO’s via Wikipedia (giving it that more realistic feeling), the “Attack in Progress” sections offers up short viral clips from news reports and home videos of the attacks taking place.

Of course, here’s where we come in. While all of this is great, and leads to some pretty cool clips, not everything this site can do it highlighted or right in front of you. As MovieViral’s forum member, OmegaXI points out, there are hidden pieces to the map that may, or may not lead to anything.

There are two set of radio signals that are coming from the map, if you place your cursor over the right spot. And they are:

The first one sounds like a radio transmission in English, it is in 3 locations on the map:
– Puerto Rico
– Around the Hudson Bay area in Canada
– And west of Panama in the ocean

The 2nd signal that comes up sounds scrambled and is located in:
– Indonesia
– Madagascar
– North Western Russia along the coast (East of Scandinavia)

These could be random noises, they could be mistakes in the site, or they could lead to something larger. Keep checking back to the site to see what else is found.

Battle: Los Angeles is in theaters March 11, 2011

Here is what I’ve discovered. 18.12 is the number of the issue of WiReD that this video appears in. I did some searching and found out that a Beverly Hills-based company named Sable Productions Ltd. filed for the trademark “AGM Heartland” on October 18th 2010. The trademark use is labeled as:

Entertainment services by way of an online website with video, audio and textual content and images featuring characters and storylines about a fictional genetic engineering company that produces genetically engineered and altered organisms

Could this be for Blomkamp’s next film, Elysium? /Film also has some quotes from Blomkamp about the film that seem to both contradict and fit perfectly with the tone, style, and content of this viral video. What do you think the video is teasing? It looks to obviously pertain to genetic experimenting (which is apparently government-approved). We’ll stay on top of this and update you if and when we get any new information.

Today we’ve got some cool fan made productions for two of our biggest films we’ve covered. First, a few months ago, MNPC Tech did a computer mod on a Cooler Master 840 ATCS, and they chose a District 9 theme. You can follow how they did it here, and see a few pictures of the computer, as well as a video of the build, after the break. Also after the break are some photos of a really cool concept hoodie (and a t-shirt, though that didn’t catch my eye much) that Nicholas Miller designed after Tron Legacy.

Yesterday was the start of San Diego Comic-Con 2010, and what a day it was. Last night was “Preview Night”, which had all the booths open for us to look at, experience, and take swag. Watch my video compilation of the night after the break, along with some of my thoughts on my first trip to Comic-Con.

As to be expected, we have yet another FIFA World Cup and District 9 mash-up video, this time courtesy of Disinformation. In the video, seen below, we find out that the MNU are moving the aliens in order to build the World Cup soccer stadium.

We don’t get to see a lot of good District 9 parody videos here at MovieViral, but the sports comedy group 12 Angry Mascots has done a great job with their video “District 11: World Cup Aftermath”, featured on Atom.com. The video spoofs the Academy Award nominated film and the World Cup by replacing the aliens with foreign soccer fans. Given that both take place in South Africa, it’s a perfect fit. The Key Art Awards, sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter, honor achievements in artwork and other promotional materials advertising films. Seems right up our alley, right? This year’s 39th annual event was held last night at Vibiana in Los Angeles, and one of our favorites, District 9, had quite the evening. Get the full details below.

District 9 took home eight awards, mostly involving their viral campaign and unique outdoor advertising. They won four Best in Show awards, for Theatrical Print – Special Recognition (‘Report Non-Human’ signs), Theatrical A/V – TV Spots (MNU important message), Theatrical New Media (the digital side of the viral campaign), and Best Integrated Marketing Campaign (for the whole campaign). Pretty impressive! One of the more interesting off-shoot awards it got was for DVD Menu Design. This goes to show that every detail of a movie counts for something.

All those people that demanded Paranormal Activity to be released in theaters are called back into action again:  Katie could use your help in winning an MTV Movie Award. As for the District 9 fans, Sharlto could get some help as well for the same award. Sharlto Copley and Katie Featherson are both nominated for “Best Scared-As-S*** Performance”, and they need your vote to win. We’ve seen how successful Paranormal Activity is at getting votes, so it has a good chance of winning. District 9 fans have competition if they expect Sharlto to win this award. He may deserve it the most though, he was scared s***less throughout half of the movie. Avatar is nominated for several categories (including Best Movie, as well as Star Trek, and even Sherlock Holmes sneaks in with the Best Fight category.
