Since the New Year’s Eve TV spot debuted, the EnemiesUnite viral marketing site for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been hinting at a huge event which was to occur some time during the Super Bowl. Well it was hard to miss but the TV spot debut during the big game, and it was even harder to miss the Enemies Unite website that debut. The thing is, the trailer that premiered on the EnemiesUnite website is much much bigger than what was shown during the game. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Viral Marketing Campaign Clone Saga Reference

We all know that Sony is going to expand Spider-Man Cinematic Universe by making films for Venom and the Sinister Six, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral marketing campaign took an interesting turn today. While the latest blog entry on The Daily Bugle blog is yet another name drop, it could be an important one considering the villain was in one of the most famous story arcs in Spider-Man’s publication history.

The villain is none other than Professor Miles Warren, aka the Jackal. Making his first appearance in Spider-Man #31, Warren developed feelings for Gwen Stacy when she and Peter Parker visited Empire State University. Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has always had to deal with a plethora of villains, enemies, and criminals. In the comics, six of the webslinger’s greatest villains banded together, and called themselves the Sinister Six. The roster may have changed, but their intentions didn’t.

Sony is hoping that it will all pay off in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The film has already teased three different villains in the first trailer, with two Easter eggs that hint at more possible appearances. But let’s just consider that Green Goblin (or some form of him played by Dane DeHaan), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti), and the film’s principle antagonist, Electro (Jamie Foxx), are the main villains. Now the site formally known as ElectroArrvies.com has been redirected to EnemiesUnite.com, adding more fuel to the fire that we will see the Sinister Six in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Much of The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s tumblr blog has been focused on reporting on OsCorp’s progress on technological advancements or criminal activity. Now a new post changes its direction a bit by posting an exclusive interview between The Daily Bugle and Spencer Smythe.

For those that don’t know, Spencer Smythe was a robotic and arachnid expert who asked J. Jonah Jameson to fund his projects, having become convinced by Jameson’s editorials that Spider-Man was a menace. After watching a demonstration showing that Smythe’s robot could sense and track spiders, Jameson hired Smythe to capture Spider-Man. His first failed attempted eventually led to an obsession of hunting the Webslinger. He also had a son, Alstiar Smythe, who was also a constant threat to Spider-Man.

“Amazing Spider-Man 2″ Viral Marketing Campaign Adds Shocker To List Of Possible Villains

As we get closer to the December 5 release of the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the viral marketing campaign continues to be updated. The last update reported on hydroelectric towers, the latest invention (and possible catalyst to turn Max Dillion into Electro) from OsCorp. We’ve also reported on the slight nods to villains like Ned Leeds (who was the Hobgoblin in the comics), and even Vemon himself. But now a new villain has appeared, and he is expected to shake things up.

That’s right, Shocker is the latest villain from Spider-Man’s Rogue Gallery to appear in the viral marketing campaign. The timing of the start of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral marketing couldn’t be more perfect. With rumors of a teaser flying about and the NYCC ending, Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures have launched the official website (in the disguise of a tumblr blog) for The Daily Bugle.

Just as in Spider-Man lore, The Daily Bugle is one of New York’s source for news. Recent postings on the site have pointed out Oscorp Business Holding Steady. The article refers to the climatic battle that happened between Spider-Man and Dr. Curt Connors aka the Lizard in the first installment. But there are other articles that refer to another scientist tied to Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s history and certain technology and equipment that are used by Spider-Man villains.
