Last month we told you about Blake Bevin’s design for a auto-lacing shoe that was inspired by the Power Laces in Back to the Future II. After Nike filed a patent for something similar, Bevin went back and perfected his design, moving the bulky external servo to the heel to conceil it. Star Wars has always been a great source for fan films. Dan reported a few days back about the fan reenactment project called Star Wars Uncut, but dozens of original stories relating to the beloved space saga have popped up on the internet for the past decade. Time realized this, and asked fans to submit their choices for their favorite fan made films. The votes have since been counted, and the magazine has released the top ten most popular Star Wars fan films. See if your favorite made the cut after the jump.
For those of you not in the know, Star Wars Uncut is a project started by Vimeo developer Casey Pugh to create a collective fan made version Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Through the project’s website, Pugh got creative fans to recreate 15 second clips of classic sci fi film, and let fans vote to decide which ones would make the final cut (sound familiar?). Now the project is complete, and Pugh and the gang are just dealing with legal issues before they can release it. See the trailer and a scene from the edited film after the break.

Today we’ve got some cool fan made productions for two of our biggest films we’ve covered. First, a few months ago, MNPC Tech did a computer mod on a Cooler Master 840 ATCS, and they chose a District 9 theme. You can follow how they did it here, and see a few pictures of the computer, as well as a video of the build, after the break. Also after the break are some photos of a really cool concept hoodie (and a t-shirt, though that didn’t catch my eye much) that Nicholas Miller designed after Tron Legacy.
It is always intriguing to speculate what life would be like if superheroes were real. Would planet Earth face the same global issues if a man from Krypton was around? Would American cities continue to have crime problems if the Caped Crusader patrolled the streets? It’s tough to know for sure. One thing is a given though. If our favorite superheroes were around, our capitalist society would take full advantage of their fame in the form of endorsements. Amra Ricketts over at Nerdiest-Kids.com realized this, and put together some great would-be advertisements if our favorite heroes and brands joined forces. Hit the jump for more.
Back in April, we reviewed the documentary 140 as part of our Newport Beach Film Festival coverage. The concept was to have 140 people film 140 seconds at the exact same time, in order to get a snapshot of the world at one moment. While the doc was made by an amateur filmmaker, it looks like some more high profile entities are looking to do something similar.

If you remember the sequel, you’ll probably remember the Nike shoes with the auto-fitting “power laces” in the year 2015.
