For those living under a rock, the beginning of the end is near for Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga, as Breaking Dawn Part 1 opens in theaters this Friday. The Muppets make their return to the big screen the next Wednesday, so the Disney film has parodied their box office rivals in Twilight-themed posters released on The Muppets Facebook page. This year, Marvel Studios won’t be presenting their crown jewel, The Avengers, to rabid fans at the San Diego Comic-Con. But fans of The Avengers won’t have to wait long, as a clip is playing after the credits of Captain America: The First Avenger. Marvel Studio’s last movie before the superhero team-up movie The Avengers is next month’s Captain America: The First Avenger. However, despite the film being just weeks away from opening, the studio, along with distributor Paramount, have really dropped the ball on marketing it. We haven’t seen much promotional material, and up until today there had only been one full trailer, and even it only showed a few seconds of Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) in the suit. Fortunately, it looks like the bigwigs have finally decided to step up the effort with a second trailer that shows more Captain, as well as a new poster from Yahoo that has a classic patriotic look to it. Check them both out after the break.
The sci film Super 8, which we’ve been covering extensively, is directed and written by J.J. Abrams. From watching the trailers and clips, it’s pretty clear that Abrams is paying homage to his idol Steven Spielberg, who is a producer on the film. The film has the feel of Spielberg’s old Amblin Entertainment movies like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. In fact, Spielberg has lent the Amblin name to the film, and Abrams himself has admitted that Super 8 is partially a love letter to the Spielberg films he grew up on. The newest poster for Super 8 plays up the Spielberg homage by mimicking the classic hand drawn posters of his 70s and 80s films. Take a look for yourself after the break.
The fourth and final preview clip from Super 8 aired on Fox Wednesday night, and though it doesn’t reveal as much as the third clip did, it still gives some clues to the plot. We also have a Japanese poster for the film from First Showing that really plays up the Spielberg connection. See it all after the break.
