Movie Review: Disneynature’s “African Cats”

This Earth Day (April 22nd) will mark the third annual US release from Disneynature, a Walt Disney film label that produces exclusively nature documentaries. 2009 saw Earth, last year we got Oceans, and this Friday African Cats hits theaters. We’ve already told you about how getting involved and purchasing tickets can help the animals featured in the film and those like them, but even then, is it worth your money? Find out in my full review after the break.

Tron Vs. Tron Legacy: Which is the Better Film?

Tron

With the release of TRON: Legacy on Blu-Ray this past week (and the re-release of the original TRON from 1982 on the same day), fans of the cult Disney film-turned-blockbuster-success are jumping in joy to see both these films in HD for the first time. However, newcomers to the Tron franchise might not be as excited due to their lack of knowledge of what it’s about. With that in mind, allow me to compare the two films in detail as a way of explaining why this series is so famous. This article will be divided into three categories: Story, Visuals, and Music, with decisions made as to which of the two films does better in these areas. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Grid and take a look at Tron and Tron Legacy.

Hobo With A Shotgun Review: Bold and Stupid Become The Same

Hobo With A Shotgun is currently available for rental on demand a month before it’s release date in theaters May 9th, much like Monsters did last year. Like before, I rented the movie early on so I can save you the trouble of choosing between waiting for the theater release, renting it on demand, or not at all. Find out which is best for you after the break.

“Sucker Punch” Review: Plenty of Punches Thrown, Mostly Air Hit

I’m split on director Zack Snyder, whose short but starry resume includes films I’ve liked (Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen), some I haven’t (300), and an upcoming one I pray he doesn’t mess up (Superman: Man of Steel). I was greatly anticipating his latest project Sucker Punch (out today in theaters and IMAX), as I thought it would give me closure on his ability to do the greatest superhero justice. Unfortunately, I came out of the theater just as divided as I came in.

“Battle: Los Angeles” Movie Review

Jonathan Liebesman’s alien invasion film Battle: Los Angeles from Columbia Pictures opens this weekend, and the question everyone is asking is whether or not this is just another Independence Day, or worse, another Skyline. While I am a big fan of the former and an apologist for the latter, this is definitely a unique film to the sci-fi sub-genre. Read my mildly spoilerish review after the break (I’m testing a new format, so let me know what you think).

Movie Review: “Rango”

A chameleon that can blend into any surrounding but cannot find out who he is or what his purporse is in life is ironic to say the least. But this is the question that Rango asks himself constantly as he does not know who he is or what his purpose is in life. Normally animated films like these has our protagonist go through a series of life changing events that eventually leads up to that climatic scene and ends with a mundane and tiresome third act. But with Rango, it is a little bit more than that. [Read more...]

Red Letter Media Is Back With 110 Minute Review of “Revenge of the Sith”

The guys at Red Letter Media have made a name for themselves doing long multi-video scathing reviews of (usually) terrible films. Their style is unique in that a demented character named Plinkett narrates the review and occasionally interrupts to say or do something disturbing. Despite the crude humor, the critiques are very well conceived and explained, as we saw in their 88 minute review of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Now Plinkett is back to review Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith in an unprecedented 110 minute review. Watch the whole thing after the break.

“Ultramarines: The Movie” Review

This may come as a surprise to you guys, but I know very little about the Warhammer 40,000 mythology. That aside, I REALLY enjoyed Ultramarines: The Movie. Despite being a straight-to-DVD CGI film, it’s particularly well done. But before I go into specifics in my review, here’s the plot of the movie in a nutshell.
