Briefly: We’ve been following the lackluster Star Trek Into Darkness Are You The 1701 campaign quite closely since it went live last week. The first “mission” was to submit pictures to Instagram and videos to Vine that were inspired by Star Trek or “the future.” 1701 fans were rewarded with a special advance screening of the domestic trailer rendered in anaglyph 3D. Now fans are asked to submit original 1701 artwork to Instagram. Just use hashtag #1701 when you post your art. If anything comes of this, we’ll let you know. Last week, we reported that the long-dormant Star Trek Into Darkness viral site AreYouThe1701.com went live with a social media contest using Instagram and Vine. Last December, a link was hidden in the first Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer. It lead us to AreYouthe1701.com, to sign up for what many hoped would be a huge campaign centered on the USS Enterprise (1701 is the ship’s registration number), turned out to be a dud. “Star Trek Into Darkness” Villain Takes a Page from General Zod in Viral Video

It’s easy to forget that Summer blockbuster movies open internationally, especially when the marketing that is not often tailored to them. Paramount’s Star Trek Into Darkness, however, has a viral video on a few international versions of Yahoo! and official Facebook pages where the antagonist John Harrison (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) talks about Captain James T. Kirk. The video intercuts clips we’ve seen in trailers with fuzzy images of Harrison, and it reminds me (and TrekMovie) of the Man of Steel viral video where General Zod calls out Superman. We Are The Explorers, an Indiegogo campaign wants to put a 30-second trailer for NASA in front of Star Trek Into Darkness in May. Using footage from a video NASA released last year, We Are The Explorers hopes to help inspire the next generation of Space explorers. “Star Trek Into Darkness” Opens Two Days Early, Tickets Available Through App

Earlier today, Caleb gave a review of the new Star Trek Into Darkness mobile app, but little did we know that the best part was yet to come. After the film’s Super Bowl TV spot aired, Paramount announced that the sci-fi sequel will open two days early, on May 15th, and that tickets are available through the app. Read the full press release after the break.
