Viral Review: The Crazies

Back when the trailer for The Crazies was released, there was a link at the end of the clip, pointing everyone towards OgdenMarsh.com. From that point on, all eyes were on this campaign. But why? What was making this one different from all the rest? Well, for starters, it’s a horror film. Secondly, based on the idea of the plot, a viral campaign can go so many ways, so it’s only bound to draw attention. Spoilers and review after the jump.

Weekend Box Office: Crazy People Win

February isn’t a blockbuster month, so while the top four grossing films this weekend made less than Avatar did alone on it’s second weekend out, there were definitely some success stories. Now that the actuals are in, which movie about crazy people won out, The Crazies or Shutter Island? Find out after the jump.

Video and My Account of The Crazies Premiere

As I briefly mentioned in my review of the film this morning, the premiere of The Crazies was an event like no other. Overture really went all out to get this audience pumped for the film, treating it like a military quarantine. I’ll explain the “crazy” night (my first premiere!) after the jump, and fortunately we have a press video of the event to help me.

The Crazies Review: Insanely Fun

Last night I went to my first preview/screening of a finished film, The Crazies. While the experience itself was a trip (check out our forum for details on the very “viral” structure of it all), what really matters is the quality of the film itself. So, does The Crazies pack as much fun, gore, and scares as it promises? Or is it just crazy stupid (as a suburban white boy who listens to Enimem would say)? Find out after the jump.

The Crazies: Lots of Updates to Viral Sites

A few updates to the once idle The Crazies viral are popping up everywhere now that the release date is close by. First off, as we reported earlier, our Ogden Marsh liaison, Kim Jonson, was strangely attacked. A new post on Kim’s website gives us a little more info on the attack.

Exclusive Crazies Comic Book Review

Most films that have viral campaigns do so because there is so much backstory worth exploring, yet they cannot waste time (and pacing) in the film to flesh it all out. The Crazies falls into that category, as the events leading up to the outbreak are glossed over in favor of getting right to the action. Fortunately, along with the viral campaign, the filmmakers decided to release comic books to give us some more insight into the outbreak itself. There are four comics in total, each named after one of the water sources that deliver the toxin to the town. The first two issues are set to be in stores today, but we got an advanced copy. Check out my review of “Hopman Bog” and “Dwyer Creek” after the jump, as well as the interesting packaging I received them in, and even a trailer.

The Crazies Viral Exclusive: Kim Jonson Attacked

In The Crazies viral campaign, Kim Jonson runs SaveOgdenMarsh.com, a blog where she tries to combat DP Chemicals’ local plant. It’s basically an environment activist site. Kim periodically makes videos for Eugene, who runs TheTruthAboutTrixie.com, a site where Eugene discusses and asks for help researching a secret military virus that makes you crazy. The premise of the movie is that the virus gets in the water and infects the town of Ogden Marsh, but the viral has yet to directly show that happening…until now. Check out the exciting video after the jump.
