Become an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. at JoinSHIELD.com

Last March we reported that a viral campaign for Thor and The Avengers was being launched. JoinShield.com made its viral debut at the C2E2, a comic and entertainment event regularly held in Chicago. There attendees were able to submit their e-mail addresses and “become” agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Details were sketchy back then, but now the official website has been launched and you can check it right after the jump. [Read more...]

Does Green Lantern’s Marketing Risk Spell Doom For The Film?

While X-Men: First Class may have been considered the black sheep of 2011 superhero films, multiple trailers and a plethora of images released have seemingly quieted criticism and turned many into believers. Naturally, attention has shifted to the next film with apparent shortcomings, and that is Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ summer blockbuster Green Lantern. Four months after the release of the initial teaser trailer and what I thought was the beginning of a viral marketing campaign, we have seen almost no marketing for the film. This week, we were told why. The movie is not finished, and the studio does not feel comfortable releasing promo materials until it is. In reaction, many have questioned what this means for the eventual marketing strategy, and the film itself? Hit the jump for my analysis of the events this week, and why, contrary to our hopes and desires, a consolidated and subdued marketing strategy might not be a bad thing for the film.

The Viral Campaign for “Thor” and “The Avengers” Begins in Chicago

I had the opportunity to attend the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo at the massive McCormick Place convention center this past weekend, and while the focus of the three day convention was primarily comic books, the heavy presence by Marvel presented a few movie related surprises. “Thor” Movie Trailer #2

Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures have released the second trailer for Thor. This trailer features more footage than we had ever seen so far, probably because most of the footage stemmed from the Comic-Con trailer alone. That being said, it is an amazing trailer filled with Frost Giant Battles, epic scenes of Asgard, more scenes with the mischievous Loki, The Destroyer, and Kat Dennings. You can check out the trailer after the jump. [Read more...]

Does Comic-Con Actually Hurt Movies?

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 has already came and went. Many movie studios and TV networks brought all their goodies to the event this year in hopes of gaining positive buzz from the most important people to their franchises, the fans themselves. Warner Brothers, Marvel, AMC and many other places all showed footage from their biggest movies and TV shows, generally getting great response. The question is, does it really matter?

Thor Comic-Con Trailer Released Online

Probably the most satisfying footage of any movie revealed at Comic-Con had to be for Thor (outside of the free screenings of Scott Pilgrim). It showed a lot more than I thought it would and really made me more confident in the film’s potential. Now it looks like the (non-bootleg) trailer has hit the web, so hold on to your butts (or your hammers) and take a look after the break.
