Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge hit in 2014. Against the odds. There was a talking raccoon! A walking tree! The dude from Parks and Recreation? And it’s set in space, with an 80s vibe? Obvious flop, right? Wrong. With bells attached. Chris Pratt now a bona fide star and being groomed to become the Harrison Ford of our generation.
Groot and Rocket became sensations. The universe building seems to work, thanks to the Infinity Stone connection. Even Howard the Duck is do-able now! Camp fun, without being too silly (Guardians has heart, wit and soul and genuine tension amidst the action heroics and laughs). Best. Soundtrack. Ever (inc the score, btw). This is now a franchise and a sequel is on the way.

The latest teaser and poster reveal everything and nothing at once. No full reveal of Kurt Russell’s character yet. No complete rundown on plot /story. But the visuals have been amped up and there is a polish and confidence to the piece, without compromising the essential charm and outsider quality that defined and enabled the first film’s success. Chris Pratt looks cool in both action man and comedic poses. Dave Bautista still hilarious. The poster is distinctive and its colour scheme could be lifted direct from an album cover.
So expect something at once familiar and original; bigger and better and yet not over-ambitiously so (none of this ‘darker second film’ nonsense). And still..expect to be surprised, challenged and above all..entertained? That’s pure speculation, of course. But this new viral teaser campaign bodes well and we look forward to reviewing the film on its release in 2017!
