Warners and DC hosted a live festival last weekend. Batman was the star, naturally!
- A behind the scenes glimpse at BLACK ADAM!
- On set with AQUAMAN!
- Some television /gaming / Smallville retrospective stuff.
- But: the big two? Naturally, it was BATMAN!
Let us start with THE BATMAN:
A second trailer was released. It is a LOT better than the initial teaser. We get a sense of plot, motif, style. R-Patz looks very shiny and sleek as Batman, which is a refreshing and convincing take on the aesthetic. He has truly nailed the voice. Great action, too and Riddler done ‘right’. That said? Is there REALLY anything ‘new’ here? What distinguishes this from a Nolan film? And if you are simply making a Dark Knight movie, why not state so, explicitly. IE: This is set in the year between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT? Thereby making tone and purpose clearer and also tidying up the fact that Bale’s Batman did not occupy the cowl for very long or take on enough of the Gotham rogues’ gallery in his tenure? But anyway. Yes, curious and will go see. Not quite ‘excited’ though, yet. Unlike my reaction to…
Classic teaser trailer stuff here. Nothing truly revealed but enough hints as to thematic and tonal destination to stoke interest. There is a Danny Elfman score, a look at Wayne Manor and a Michael Keaton voiceover. THAT reveal at the end of the segment is cinematic magic. Too much Ezra Miller maybe? But hey, anything that has a Keaton-verse Batman makes that worth enduring imho. I cannot wait to see this!!!
