Gervais’ Super-Nature. Review.

by James Murphy

The Good:

1: Laugh a minute, almost per SECOND.

2: Despite all the nasty bits, there is heart and inclusive messaging behind it all.

3: Breaks every taboo. Cathartic.

4: Gervais works hard here. Minimal filler. Zero Breaks. Value for money.

Not so Good:

1: If he is anti religion and supernatural? Does he not ‘get’ that:

2: This is basically an atheist pulpit?

3: If you praise the wonders of nature? Some people MIGHT call that ‘supernatural’. Or in fact, ‘God’?

4: One joke was done by Steve Coogan, first and better, years before. Not the first time, incidentally, that Gervais has done that. But could happen to anyone by accident.

5: Talks a LOT about straight vs gay and trans stuff, for a guy who also goes on about how secure he is in his heterosexuality. Just sayin’, like.

On the whole, (though I will never forgive Gervais for dissing Downey that time. And though he protests against ‘woke’ despite his own VERY wokey performance at THAT Diana concert in ’07?).. This is excellent stand-up philosophy/comedy. Moves apace. Great to unwind with pre bed, especially in an era of watching every word we say.
